CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — With her career as representative for Virginia’s 7th District coming to a close, Democrat Abigail Spanberger is gearing up for her next endeavor, running for governor.
Spanberger said that, while she feels she accomplished a lot in the House of Representatives, she is ready to come home.
“I look forward to being out across the commonwealth, making my case to voters and ensuring they know who I am and what I have done,” she said.
She said her agenda will be based on what she has heard from her constituents.
“The things I intend to focus on are the things I hear from Virginians, and that’s strengthening our public schools, ensuring that kids heading off the school, whether it’s kindergarten through the time they graduate, that they are set up for success,” she said.
Virginia is likely to elect its first female governor during the next election, with Spanberger and Republican Winsome Earle-Sears the current front runners for their respective parties.
