Building Trades Council President: “Spanberger Will Deliver Real Results for Working Families”
RICHMOND, Va. — The building trades council representing 28 construction trades unions and more than 30,000 workers across Northern Virginia and the greater region today endorsed Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger to serve as the next Governor of Virginia.
In endorsing Spanberger, the building trades council praised her work to create good-paying jobs, make the Commonwealth more affordable for working families, and protect Virginians’ rights.
“Virginians deserve a champion who has a proven record of supporting family-sustaining wages, record investments in infrastructure and clean energy, and strong labor standards that uplift all workers,” said Greg Akerman, President, Baltimore/DC-Metro Building Trades Council. “Unlike Glenn Youngkin and his handpicked successor Winsome Sears, Abigail Spanberger will deliver real results for working families — not false promises and failed economic development deals.”
“Across every corner of our Commonwealth, I meet Virginians who work hard, play by the rules, and want security and prosperity for their families. But at this moment, so many Virginians are putting in longer hours, yet finding it even harder to make ends meet,” said Spanberger. “Virginia needs a Governor who will respond with action and put Virginia workers first.”
Spanberger continued, “These men and women deserve a Governor in Richmond who will deliver better wages, strong investments in training and apprenticeship programs, fair treatment in the workplace, and a more affordable Virginia for their families. That’s why I’m grateful to earn the council’s endorsement. Together, we are going to build the next generation of Virginia’s workforce.”
BACKGROUND
In Congress, Spanberger built a reputation for focusing on the issues that matter most to working families — creating good-paying jobs, strengthening our public schools, and increasing opportunity for every Virginian. She defended the pensions of retired workers in Virginia and across the country — and has been a champion of policies that have created more jobs for Virginians, including the bipartisan infrastructure law.
As Virginia’s next Governor, Abigail will always support working Virginians — and she has made clear her commitment to investing in job training, lowering costs for working families, and pushing back against threats to Virginians’ livelihoods.
