ICYMI: Clean Virginia Endorses Abigail Spanberger for Governor

This Week’s Endorsement Builds on the Congresswoman’s Momentum Ahead of 2025

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – IN CASE YOU MISSED IT — This week, Clean Virginia announced its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger to serve as the 75th Governor of Virginia.

On Monday, Clean Virginia released the following press release.

Charlottesville, VA – Clean Virginia announced today its endorsement of U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger to serve as the next governor of Virginia — pledging an initial contribution of $250,000 from Clean Virginia Fund, the Political Action Committee associated with Clean Virginia.

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Clean Virginia, which joins thousands of Virginians from across our Commonwealth in supporting our campaign. As our next governor, I look forward to working with all Virginians to make our Commonwealth a true leader in cleaner and more affordable energy — as well as an economic powerhouse when it comes to securing the jobs of the future. Virginia has a tremendous opportunity to lead the way,” said Rep. Spanberger.

“Clean Virginia is proud to endorse Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger. Throughout her distinguished career in public service, Representative Spanberger has always worked to deliver results and put Virginians first. She has also been a critical voice for bringing together industry leaders, environmental organizations and business groups to find common ground, combat climate change and build a more resilient economy. Future Governor Spanberger will focus on policies that have a tangible impact on the lives of all Virginians — ensuring every family benefits from environmental sustainability, lower energy costs and a government that responds to the people,” said Clean Virginia Executive Director Brennan Gilmore.

Congresswoman Spanberger has represented Virginia’s Seventh District in Congress for three terms, which included two terms as Chair of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee’s Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee.

Rep. Spanberger has championed bipartisan efforts to promote good governance, eliminate conflicts of interest, strengthen support for sustainable agriculture and conservation practices and support new clean energy jobs. She has also been a tireless defender of critical clean energy and conservation funding made possible through the landmark Inflation Reduction Act. Further, Rep. Spanberger’s long-held stance of not accepting corporate PAC donations demonstrates that she is a leader on an issue that recent polling indicates 92 percent of Virginians identify as important: limiting the influence of money in politics.

Clean Virginia endorses statewide candidates based on a variety of criteria, including responses to a candidate questionnaire, public statements and legislative records (for incumbents). All Clean Virginia-endorsed candidates share a principled and public commitment against accepting contributions from and owning stock in Virginia’s regulated electric utility monopolies, Dominion Energy and Appalachian Power Company.

BACKGROUND

Spanberger is off to an early start in earning key Virginia endorsements.

Since launching her campaign, Spanberger has been endorsed by more than 100 current and former elected officials from across the Commonwealth — including former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam; U.S. Representatives Jennifer Wexton (VA-10), Gerry Connolly (VA-11), and Don Beyer (VA-08); and former U.S. Representatives Elaine Luria (VA-02), Tom Perriello (VA-05), and Rick Boucher (VA-09).

Spanberger is serving her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, she serves on the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.

Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — tracking narcotics traffickers and working money laundering cases — and as a CIA case officer — working undercover on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases. She and her husband Adam are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters.

Spanberger announced her campaign to serve as the 75th Governor of Virginia in November 2023.
