Spanberger on FOX5: “I Am All About Ensuring that We Are Always Taking a Hard Look at What We Could Be Improving Upon Better as a Federal Government […] But this Is a Sledgehammer Approach”
On Thursday, the Trump Administration Advised Federal Agencies to Fire as Many as 200,000 Probationary Employees
RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger last night spoke out against the Trump Administration’s continued threats to Virginia jobs — including late Thursday when it advised agency heads to fire as many as 200,000 federal employees.
Virginia is home to more than 140,000 federal employees — meaning threats against the federal workforce are threats to the Commonwealth’s economy. On FOX 5 DC, Spanberger shared stories she is hearing from Virginians who are concerned about the Trump Administration’s attacks on their jobs, their livelihoods, and their ability to deliver for their fellow Virginians.

What we’re seeing in this attack on the federal workforce — this is an attack on Virginians. This is an attack on Virginia’s economy.
We’re looking at potentially, really, a devastating scenario for the Commonwealth.
Virginia is home to more than 140,000 federal employees. That does not include active duty servicemembers. That does not include Veterans. That does not include contractors and the small businesses that serve so many federal employees across communities, across Virginia — and in particular, across Northern Virginia.
This is about individuals, their jobs, their ability to provide for their family. But it is also about Virginia’s economy.

I am all about ensuring that we are always taking a hard look at what we could be improving upon better as a federal government, certainly here in Virginia. I think that’s important. But this is a sledgehammer approach.
