Teamsters Joint Council 83 endorses Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia
As a member of the 62-person Problem Solvers Caucus, an equally split group of Democrats and Republicans, Representative Abigail Spanberger is dedicated to meeting the needs of our great nation. This fact is demonstrated by how she diligently collaborates with colleagues “across the aisle” while developing bipartisan solutions to critical policy issues.
“Representative Abigail Spanberger has used her platform to enhance the political voice and social standings of those who are marginalized. Thereby advocating for justice and effecting positive change,” said James R. Smith, Principal Officer, Teamsters Joint Council 83.
“Representative Abigail Spanberger has a 95% Congressional lifetime record of standing with working people. She supported the Multiemployer Pension Protection Act, which helped protect 72,000 Teamster pensions, she has been a stalwart advocate of the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, fought to protect Social Security, to stop older worker discrimination, and has been a champion to increase broadband internet access. Moreover, Representative Abigail Spanberger has distinguished herself as a servant of the people and a bona fide ally of labor. One that has the experience, skills, wisdom, courage, and temperament to lead our Commonwealth of Virginia. Following the endorsement, Spanberger thanked Teamsters Joint Council 83 for their strong support.

BACKGROUND
Spanberger is serving her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, she serves on the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.
Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — tracking narcotics traffickers and working money laundering cases — and as a CIA case officer — working undercover on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases.
She and her husband Adam are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters.
