SPAN VIRGINIA: Spanberger Meets Virginians in Hampton Roads

During the Two-Day Swing, Spanberger Visited Small Businesses, Churches, & Community Organizations in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, & Chesapeake

RICHMOND, Va. — This past weekend, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger — running to be the next Governor of Virginia — met Virginia Veterans, business owners, and community members across Hampton Roads.

On Saturday and Sunday, Spanberger listened to Virginians’ ideas for the future of the Commonwealth, heard about the issues that matter most to them, toured local businesses, and discussed some of the challenges facing Virginia’s Veterans, servicemembers, and military families. She spent time in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake.

“As the next Governor of Virginia, I will make sure the voices of all Virginians are heard at the decision-making table — including the small business owners who keep our communities strong and our neighbors who keep our country safe,” said Spanberger. “Virginia has one of the largest populations of Veterans in the country — and many of our bravest neighbors call Hampton Roads home. Communities like those in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake continue to thrive because of the small businesses that our Veterans and local entrepreneurs pour their heart and soul into every day. I will always listen to their ideas for how we can build a better Commonwealth. My vision for the future of Virginia is, and will continue to be, guided by all Virginians.”

On Saturday, Spanberger visited five barber shops and beauty salons — Hair Design by Pam, Redline Beauty Bar, The Wright Spot, Style Rite Barbershop, and Mr. Scooby’s Barber & Beauty. Spanberger listened to the challenges met and successes achieved by the Virginia who run these local businesses.

Also on Saturday, Spanberger met with Veterans and military family members at the Young Veterans Brewing Company in Virginia Beach. There Spanberger discussed how, as Governor, she will work to make sure Virginia’s Veterans receive the benefits they earned during their service and that the Commonwealth is the best place for Veterans to live after transitioning into civilian life.

On Sunday morning, Spanberger visited congregations at Gethsemane Community Fellowship Church and Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, where she enjoyed connecting with parishioners and discussing their hopes, aspirations, and concerns for the future of Virginia.

Throughout the weekend, Spanberger spoke in packed rooms with members of the Norfolk Democratic Committee, Virginia Beach Democratic Committee, and Chesapeake Democratic Committee about protecting Virginians’ fundamental rights, strengthening Virginia’s local workforce, and working effectively with legislators from across the aisle to deliver for Virginians.

On Sunday afternoon, Spanberger hosted a meet and greet with the Hampton Roads Young Democrats to hear about their priorities — including cutting red tape to increase the housing supply and make sure the next generation of Virginians can afford to live in the Commonwealth.

BACKGROUND

Spanberger served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 2019 to January 2025. Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — tracking narcotics traffickers and working money laundering cases. She then served as a CIA case officer — working undercover on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases. She and her husband Adam are the proud parents of three school-aged daughters in Virginia public schools.

Abigail Spanberger announced her campaign to serve as the 75th Governor of Virginia in November 2023.
