Spanberger: “As Governor, I Promise to Show the Same Resolve in Standing Against Threats to the Health, Safety, and Financial Security of Virginia Families”
RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement ahead of Sunday, March 23 — the 15th anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law.
“This weekend marks 15 years of the Affordable Care Act, which has lowered healthcare costs for Virginia families, expanded coverage for hundreds of thousands of Virginians, and paved the way for Medicaid expansion here in the Commonwealth. We should be proud of this progress.
“Back in 2017, I made the decision to run for Congress after watching my congressman vote to repeal this law — not because doing so was good policy, but because it fit the brand of bumper-sticker politics on which he campaigned.
“When I got to Congress, I focused on actually protecting affordable healthcare coverage for Virginia families. I worked to stop the first Trump Administration’s attempts to sabotage the law, voted to protect Virginians with pre-existing conditions, and voted to lower health insurance premiums for Virginia families covered under the ACA.
“As Governor, I promise to show the same resolve in standing against threats to the health, safety, and financial security of Virginia families. All Virginians — in every corner of our Commonwealth — deserve access to affordable and reliable healthcare coverage.”
