Governor Youngkin Proposed Cutting $138 Million in Funding for K-12 School Support Staff
RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement after the Youngkin-Sears Administration proposed major cuts to investments in Virginia school support staff passed by the General Assembly.
“As the mom of three daughters in Virginia public schools, I know that all Virginia parents want their kids to receive a high-quality education that puts them on the path to success. As a parent, I also know the importance of the hardworking, dedicated Virginians who make sure our children have a safe, secure, and productive schoolday.
“The Youngkin-Sears Administration’s misguided proposal to slash the funding passed by the General Assembly for these critical support positions — from nurses to custodial staff — is deeply misguided. However, I am optimistic that Democrats in our General Assembly will take the necessary steps to protect these important investments.
“Virginia’s parents and students deserve a Governor who is focused on making our Commonwealth’s public schools the best in America. As Governor, I will work to make sure our local school divisions have the support staff they need to make sure all Virginia students — no matter their zip code — have the opportunities they need to succeed.”
