RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement marking Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2025.
“Today, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s commitment to moving our country toward our Constitution’s promise of a more perfect union. Throughout his life, Dr. King called upon us all to advocate on behalf of our fellow Americans — regardless of who we are, who they are, or where we live. He knew what a powerful force for change we could build together.
“This message is as timely today as it was during Dr. King’s lifetime. As so many Virginians are feeling a renewed sense of urgency, we remember how Dr. King demonstrated the power of our collective voices to deliver an even brighter, more unified future for the next generation.
“As Governor, I look forward to working together with Virginians from across our Commonwealth to protect our collective rights, freedoms, and opportunities.”

To help recognize Dr. King’s legacy, Spanberger today is delivering the keynote address at the NAACP Fredericksburg Branch’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast. The theme of this year’s event is “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
