Almost 1,350 days remain until President Donald Trump’s disastrous reign ends. It seems like a lifetime, and at my age, it might well be. Six hundred days remain until Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives. However, only about 240 days remain until we see a new day in Virginia under Governor Abigail Spanberger.

The extremist Republican statewide ticket continues to support Trump’s calamitous policies, shrugging off the firing of thousands of Virginia federal employees, Abigail will put Virginia first, in the model of our great senators Warner and Kaine and a line of successful democratic governors.

Virginia ranks last in the country in math recovery and 41st in reading recovery. However, Trump is trying to abolish federal support for education. Abigail has three children in public schools. She will fight hard for public education at all levels and address Virginia’s teacher shortage.

Abigail will sign the bill Gov. Glenn Youngkin just vetoed that would guarantee Virginians a right to use contraception free from government interference and would protect families’ personal health care decisions.

At a time when Virginia is experiencing droughts, fires, floods, and sea level rise caused by carbon pollution (which Trump thinks we need more of), Abigail will fight for clean energy alternatives, bringing clean energy jobs to Virginia.

Abigail will protect Virginians who serve us as federal employees. She will sign legislation Youngkin vetoed to raise the minimum wage and work for good union jobs for Virginians.

Abigail will support Virginia’s farmers, addressing trade concerns, increasing access to capital, and expanding access to domestic and foreign markets. She is committed to improving healthcare access across rural Virginia, including telehealth, and will invest in Virginia’s rural healthcare workforce. She will make sure all Virginians are connected to high-speed broadband.
