These Terms and Privacy Policy apply to the website www.abigailspanberger.com (the “Site”) owned and operated by Spanberger for Governor, a candidate committee for Abigail Spanberger, running for Governor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Spanberger for Governor has created this privacy policy to explain how we use information that you may provide while visiting this Site and to demonstrate our firm commitment to Internet privacy. Spanberger for Governor may modify this policy from time to time so we encourage you to check this page when revisiting this Site.  By using this Site, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

How We Use Your Information

When you register, contribute, sign up to volunteer, or take any other action on our Site, we may ask you to give us contact information, including your name, address, telephone number, mobile telephone number and/or e-mail address.  We may obtain information about you from outside sources and add it to or combine it with the information we collect through this Site.  

We use this information to operate this Site, send you news and information about Spanberger for Governor’s activities, solicit your participation in Spanberger for Governor’s activities, events, and programs, and for related uses.  We use your e-mail address to send such information by e-mail, and may use your telephone number to call you or send you a text message or phone call for these purposes.

Additionally, we may share your information as follows, or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy: 

• With organizations, candidates, campaigns, groups, or causes that we believe have similar political viewpoints, principles, or objectives or share similar goals and with organizations that facilitate communications and information sharing among such groups;

• With other participants in a joint fundraising committee;

• To companies that assist us in maintaining this Site or with Spanberger for Governor’s activities, but only for purposes of providing services to Spanberger for Governor and with the strict requirement that any such company will never itself have the right to contact you for any reason;

• To comply with applicable law or legal requirements (for example, a lawful subpoena), to protect our rights or property, or to protect our supporters from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful conduct, or if we reasonably believe that an emergency involving immediate danger of death or serious physical injury to any person requires disclosure of communications or justifies disclosure of records; or

• To other groups with your consent.

Submitting your personal information (including e-mail address) on this page will sign you up to receive e-mails from Spanberger for Governor.  We may also use your first name to indicate the latest actions taken on this site. 

Mobile Terms and Conditions

Spanberger for Governor’’s mobile campaigns provide subscribers with updates, event invitations, donation asks, and voting reminders.

You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP”. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. T-Mobile is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Message frequency varies. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.

Mobile information will not be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Children

Spanberger for Governor complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.  Spanberger for Governor does not solicit and does not accept personally identifying information from any person under 13 years of age.  

Visitors to this Site who are under 13 years of age should not use this Site except under the supervision and with the assistance of their parent or legal guardian, and should never submit any personally identifying information to the Site.  For example, visitors under 13 years of age should not register, purchase or use services or take any actions on or through this Site.

Credit Card Information; Protection of Personal Information

When you purchase services through this Site, we collect credit card information from you.  That information is used solely for processing your contribution; is not maintained by Spanberger for Governor; and is never disclosed to anyone, for any other purpose other than for processing your contribution, under any circumstances.

Spanberger for Governor uses industry standard security measures to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of all of the personally identifiable information that you provide to us.  Our server is located in a locked, secure environment.  All supplied credit card information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and then encrypted into our payment processing provider’s database. 

Permission to access your personally identifiable information is granted only to you and Spanberger for Governor employees or contractors who need to know that information to provide services to you and who are required to keep the information confidential.  Although we make good faith efforts to store information collected by this Site in a secure operating environment, we cannot guarantee complete security. 

Contributions to Spanberger for Governor – Public Information

Spanberger for Governor is required to file regular reports with the Virginia Department of Elections that publicly disclose the name, address, occupation and employer of persons who contribute to the campaign, along with the amount and date of the contribution. 

Cookies and Data Tracking

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s hard drive containing information about the user.  Some parts of this Site may be password-protected.  We may use a cookie (cookies reside on your computer and are under the control of your browser) to help us remember and process items that you purchase through this Site; and/or to compile aggregate data about visitors to the Site and their interaction with the Site for the purposes of improving the operation of the Site and/or offering better Site experiences and tools in the future.
