Every day, Abigail hears from Virginians — whether they’re working parents, young people entering the workforce, or Virginians close to retirement age — who are working longer hours but struggling to keep up with high prices. She knows that the combined cost of housing, childcare, groceries, and prescription drugs is making it harder to make ends meet.
As Governor, Abigail wants Virginia to be a nationwide leader in addressing the housing affordability crisis — which means working with anyone to make sure more Virginians can achieve their dream of buying a home here in the Commonwealth. She will lead efforts to cut red tape, increase housing supply and construction, and make housing more affordable for buyers and renters.
Abigail knows that Virginians are also feeling the sting of high energy bills. To meet the moment and meet increased demand, she believes that Virginia needs a clear, statewide vision for the Commonwealth’s energy future. Abigail believes that long-term, sustainable energy independence will not only benefit Virginia’s environment, but will lead to job security for thousands of Virginians and lower rates for Virginia consumers.
As a parent of three school-aged girls, Abigail also knows that the high cost of childcare is a burden for many families — and is often preventing them from entering the workforce or going back to school. In Congress, she supported strong investments in childcare. And as Governor, she will work to increase the number of quality childcare programs serving families across Virginia and work to tackle affordability at the state level.
