Dennis Martire, LIUNA Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager: “Abigail Spanberger’s Track Record Speaks for Itself — She Has and Will Continue to Strengthen Virginia’s Workforce”
Spanberger: “I’m Proud to Earn LIUNA’s Endorsement to Serve as the Next Governor of Virginia and to Stand With the Union Members who Help Keep Our Commonwealth Strong”
RICHMOND, Va. — The Mid-Atlantic Region of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA), which represents thousands of construction workers, skilled laborers, and other private and public employees across Virginia, today endorsed Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger to serve as the next Governor of Virginia.
In endorsing Spanberger, LIUNA leaders praised her strong record of uplifting working families across the Commonwealth, her vision to build an economy that increases opportunity for all Virginians, and her commitment to defending workers’ rights.
“Abigail Spanberger’s track record speaks for itself — she has and will continue to strengthen Virginia’s workforce,” said Dennis L. Martire, Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager. “We look forward to working with her on projects and policies that will bring more working families into the middle class such as expanding the use of project labor agreements.”
“I am grateful for LIUNA’s work to give Virginians a voice in their workplace — no matter if that’s on a construction site or out in their communities. LIUNA members build the roads and bridges Virginians use everyday, construct the houses and apartment buildings our neighbors call home, and provide critical services to our communities,” said Spanberger. “All working Virginians deserve the right to advocate for higher pay, better benefits, and commonsense health and safety protections.”
Spanberger continued, “I’m proud to earn LIUNA’s endorsement to serve as the next Governor of Virginia and to stand with the union members who help keep our Commonwealth strong. I look forward to working together to invest in our workforce and create good-paying jobs for more Virginians.”
“Abigail Spanberger will work tirelessly to make it possible for more Virginians to support their families through good union jobs, have access to quality healthcare, and retire with dignity,” said Ryan N. Boyer, Business Manager, Philadelphia/Baltimore/Washington Laborers’ District Council. “That is the kind of leader that the Commonwealth needs for its next Governor.”
“With her support of workforce training and apprenticeship, Abigail Spanberger will create more opportunities for Virginians to build new infrastructure in their communities while earning a family-supporting wage,” said Jessie King, Business Manager, West Virginia and Appalachian Laborers’ District Council. “She has proven that she can bring Republicans and Democrats together for commonsense policies that allow Virginia’s economy to thrive for both workers and businesses.”
“Abigail Spanberger supports strong labor standards, better wages, and investments in workforce development,” said Ernest Ojito, Business Manager, LIUNA Local 202R. “In Congress, she voted to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a bipartisan law that delivered $10 billion in investment that created good-paying union construction jobs in Virginia.”
BACKGROUND
In Congress, Spanberger built a reputation for focusing on the issues that matter most to working families — creating good-paying jobs, strengthening our public schools, and increasing opportunity for every Virginian. She defended the pensions of retired workers in Virginia and across the country — and has been a champion of policies that have created more jobs for Virginians, including the bipartisan infrastructure law.
As Virginia’s next Governor, Abigail will always support working Virginians — and she has made clear her commitment to investing in job training, raising Virginia’s minimum wage, lowering costs for working families, and pushing back against threats to Virginians’ livelihoods.
