Spanberger: “We Recognize the Continued Sacrifice of Those Who Put on the Badge and Put Themselves in Harm’s Way Every Day to Keep Our Communities Safe”
RICHMOND, Va. — To mark the beginning of National Police Week, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement honoring Virginia’s law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty — and reinforcing her commitment to supporting those who protect our Commonwealth every day.
“During National Police Week, we recognize the continued sacrifice of those who put on the badge and put themselves in harm’s way every day to keep our communities safe. We also honor Virginia’s law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty and remember their dedicated service.
“My father was a career law enforcement officer. Growing up, I watched him leave our home each morning to serve a mission he deeply believed in — a mission rooted in duty and service to others. When I began my career in federal law enforcement, I was proud to follow in his footsteps and work with local police departments to keep our neighbors safe.
“Those who put on the uniform deserve more than our thanks and gratitude — they deserve leaders who will do everything in their power to make sure Virginia’s police officers come home to their families at the end of the day. As the next Governor of Virginia, I will always work to provide our law enforcement with the tools, training, and resources they need to safely serve their communities. This week — and every week, I’m humbled to stand behind Virginia’s brave law enforcement officers.”
