Spanberger: “Today, the Senate of Virginia Recognized the Privacy, Freedom, and Dignity that all Virginians Deserve”
RICHMOND, Va. — Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger today released the following statement after the Senate of Virginia moved three amendments forward to protect reproductive rights, marriage equality, and automatic voting rights restoration in the Virginia Constitution.
“Today, the Senate of Virginia recognized the privacy, freedom, and dignity that all Virginians deserve.
“Virginians’ right to decide if, when, and how to start or grow their family should be protected. Virginians deserve the clear freedom to marry the person they love — and Virginia’s Constitution should affirm that their love, marriages, and families are welcomed. Virginians who’ve served their time and paid their debts to society deserve the dignity of participating in the conversation about our Commonwealth’s future. What Virginians do not deserve is living with the worry that politicians in Richmond might roll back their rights.
“I’m grateful to the sponsors who’ve championed these amendments — and every advocate, legislator, and community member who continues to work tirelessly to protect the rights of our fellow Virginians and keep us moving along the path of real progress.”
