HENRICO, Va. — Former U.S. Rep. Elaine Luria (VA-02) today endorsed U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger to serve as the next Governor of Virginia.
Luria represented the people of Virginia’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023.
“Today, I am proud to endorse my friend Abigail Spanberger to serve as the next Governor of Virginia. Since we first campaigned together during the 2018 cycle, I have seen firsthand her unwavering commitment to public service and her deep love of Virginia,” said Luria. “Our Commonwealth is facing threats to our rights, and our country is facing threats to our democracy. Abigail is no stranger to these tough fights. As Governor, she will be a historic leader for Hampton Roads and the entire Commonwealth — and I am confident that she will strengthen our schools, stand with our veterans, and lower costs for Virginia families.”

On Monday, Spanberger launched her gubernatorial campaign.
On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton (VA-10) endorsed Spanberger — and on Wednesday, former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (VA-08), and U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (VA-11) endorsed Spanberger.
And yesterday, state and local officials from across the Commonwealth endorsed Spanberger’s campaign.
BACKGROUND
U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) is serving her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, she serves on the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.
Before Congress, Spanberger served as a federal law enforcement officer — tracking narcotics traffickers and working money laundering cases — and as a CIA case officer — working undercover on counterterrorism and nuclear counterproliferation cases. She and her husband Adam are raising three school-aged daughters in Virginia.
